In the early years of Beijing, those who sell groceries and fruits as the main bazaar, the second half of the night market, the dawn that is scattered, the stallholders to kerosene lamps to brighten up the distant look of the lights and shadows, so the name of the "ghost market".

Since the reform and opening up, because the ghost street catering has been a household name in Beijing, many people also see the huge business opportunities here, even the local government from the beginning of the exclusion of the strong tube, to the later positive support, the district business committee also named this place "Dongnei catering street".

But the word "ghost" is not elegant, so the Dongcheng District is considering changing the name of the ghost street. But the bosses were afraid the name change would ruin the feng shui, and then someone found the word "gui" in the dictionary, which has the same sound as the word "gui," and is also associated with food.

It began to be actively publicized, and in the Dongzhimen overpass ghost street side of the bridge to do a "Gui" of the large bronze statue, so there is now this far-famed "Guijie".
