Consumer Analysis Report on China's Fast Food Market
China's fast food industry started late, with the entry of the KFC fast food chain into the Beijing market in April 1987 as an opportunity to unveil the rapid development of China's modern fast food. After years of development, China's fast food industry is growing rapidly, with an expanding market share that has taken up 45% of the catering market.

In 2004, the annual retail sales of catering industry realized 748.6 billion yuan, a net increase of 133.0 billion yuan over the previous year, an increase of 21.6%, 14 consecutive years of double-digit high-speed growth, its growth rate of 10 percentage points higher than that of the previous year; in 2005, the annual retail sales of catering industry realized 888.86 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 17.7%, a net increase of 133.6 billion yuan over the previous year, a 4.4% increase over the total retail sales of consumer goods. The total retail sales of consumer goods increased by 4.8 percentage points, accounting for 13.2% of the total retail sales of consumer goods, and contributing 17.4% and 2.3% to the growth of the total retail sales of consumer goods.

In 2006, the turnover of catering enterprises above and below the quota amounted to 301.18 billion yuan and 733.37 billion yuan respectively, representing an increase of 15.9% and 16.6% over the previous year, and the proportion of total retail sales of the catering industry in the country was 29.1% and 70.9% respectively; the growth rate of the above quota increased by 4.4 percentage points over the previous year, while the growth rate of the below-quota slowed down, but the proportion was slightly increased. In 2006, the retail sales of the catering industry accounted for 13.5% of the total retail sales of consumer goods, contributing 15.8% to the growth of the total retail sales of consumer goods and driving the growth of the total retail sales of consumer goods by 2.2 percentage points. The whole industry realized 56.9 billion yuan of operating tax, an increase of 17.6% over the previous year.

From January to November 2007, the national retail sales of accommodation and catering industry totaled 1113.13 billion yuan, an increase of 18.9% year-on-year, 2.7 percentage points higher than the same period of the previous year, accounting for 13.9% of the total retail sales of consumer goods, pulling the growth of total retail sales of consumer goods by 2.6 percentage points, and contributing to the growth of total retail sales of consumer goods by 15.7%.

China's stable socio-economic development and the continued improvement of people's living standards will make the environment and conditions for the development of the fast food industry more mature, and market demand will be further strengthened, and the prospects for the development of China's fast food industry will be even more promising. China's per capita GDP has exceeded US$1,000, and with an average annual growth rate of 7-8% towards the goal of a moderately prosperous society with a per capita GDP of US$3,000, the economic system and the growth mode are constantly improving, and the process of industrialization, urbanization and modernization is accelerating day by day.
