Article 2 In the Chinese People's **** and the State engaged in the following activities, shall comply with this law:
(a) food production and processing (hereinafter referred to as food production), food sales and food service (hereinafter referred to as food business);
(b) Food additives;

However, the market sale of edible agricultural products, the formulation of relevant quality and safety standards, the publication of relevant safety information and the provisions of this Law on agricultural inputs shall comply with the provisions of this Law. Article 150 Meaning of the following terms of this Law:
Food, means all kinds of finished products and raw materials for human consumption or drinking and articles that are both food and herbal medicine in accordance with tradition, but excludes articles intended for therapeutic purposes.
Food safety means that the food is non-toxic, non-hazardous, meets the nutritional requirements that it should have, and does not pose any acute, subacute or chronic hazards to human health.
Prepackaged food, means food that is pre-quantified or made in packaging materials or containers.
Food additives means synthetic or natural substances, including nutritional enhancers, that are added to food to improve its quality and color, aroma and taste, as well as for the purpose of preservation, freshness and processing.
Packaging materials and containers used for food, refers to packaging, holding food or food additives with paper, bamboo, wood, metal, enamel, ceramics, plastics, rubber, natural fibers, chemical fibers, glass and other products and coatings that are in direct contact with food or food additives.
Tools and equipment used in food production and management refer to machinery, pipelines, conveyor belts, containers, utensils, tableware, etc., which come into direct contact with food or food additives in the process of food or food additives production, sale and use.
Detergents and sanitizers used for food means substances directly used to wash or sanitize food, tableware, drinking utensils, and tools, equipment or food packaging materials and containers in direct contact with food.
Shelf life of food means the period of time during which the food maintains its quality under the labeled storage conditions.
Foodborne disease means infectious, toxic and other diseases caused by pathogenic factors in food entering the human body, including food poisoning.
Food safety incidents, refers to foodborne illness, food contamination and other food originating from food, human health hazards or may be harmful to the accident.
