I have witnessed all kinds of serious waste in the catering industry. For this reason, I have also made unannounced visits to dozens of hotels and restaurants across the country on business trips, and found that the waste phenomenon is really serious. In some places, the plates for guests are stacked, with as many as thirty or forty dishes per table. The dishes on the table are crowded with a lot of leftovers, which is terrible; In some places, food is often served, and if a dish is useless, it will be cleaned up, and it will be the same for a new dish. Similar waste can be seen in many restaurants and hotels.

China is a big country with a population of1300 million, so the problem of eating is a national event. Many poor and remote areas still have food and clothing problems. The above-mentioned serious waste phenomenon is in sharp contrast with the problem of food and clothing in poor areas, which cannot but make every conscientious citizen feel great sorrow. On the other hand, food civilization is also an important embodiment of socialist spiritual civilization, and serious waste and overeating largely reflect the low quality of the social population. At the same time, most wasted diets are accompanied by overeating, which is extremely harmful to the body.

In view of the above situation, we can put an end to and improve it by the following methods.

First, put an end to food waste through legal means. The competent department of catering industry should formulate legal provisions to prevent waste in the catering industry, including legal provisions to prevent waste management in the catering industry and legal provisions to punish customers for eating waste, so as to stop serious waste in the catering industry in the form of law.

Two, through media publicity, improve the legal awareness of the national food civilization. Through radio, television, newspapers and advertisements, we will vigorously publicize the significance of food civilization, suggestions and measures to eliminate food waste, and exchange experiences in this regard. Once the laws and regulations on eliminating food and beverage waste are passed by the National People's Congress, they should be vigorously publicized to enhance the legal awareness of food and beverage civilization of the whole people.

Third, put an end to food waste through discipline inspection, further control public funds to treat guests from the perspective of party discipline, party style and clean government construction, and grasp the food waste caused by public funds to treat guests from the economic source.

Fourth, through the scientific research on diet, put forward the method of scientific diet. It is suggested that relevant scientific research departments engaged in food and nutrition research should seriously study the scientific problems of traditional catering in China, refer to western and Japanese catering science, and consider from the perspective of nutrition and economics, formulate a series of scientific programs on catering in China, and promote them to the society for trial implementation. Gradually eliminate the disadvantages of traditional catering in China, so as to reduce the waste of catering in China.

Fifth, reduce food waste by promoting cultural consumption. Lack of awareness of cultural consumption should be a common social problem in all parts of China. Because citizens' cultural consumption consciousness is weak, they tend to eat, drink and be merry, which is one of the important reasons for food waste. Cultural consumption is vigorously promoted through cultural departments and media, so that citizens' consumption consciousness gradually shifts from eating, drinking and having fun to the parallel track of material consumption and cultural consumption, and efforts are made to shift citizens' consumption attention from paying too much attention to catering consumption to cultural consumption.

Reducing food and beverage waste is not a trivial matter, but a major event related to national economic development and spiritual civilization construction. This work is also a systematic project. It is necessary to improve food culture, reduce and eliminate food waste through law, publicity, discipline inspection, scientific research and culture.
