The days of unemployment are long and hard. I have worked as a sewing worker, a sketch artist, an accountant and so on. These do not seem to be the most appropriate positioning. I have been disappointed and wandering, but the fire of hope has always been in my heart. The opportunity finally came, and a friend of my father's who works in a watch shop accepted me. I studied hard to repair watches, and soon the master handed over another watch repair shop to me and a younger brother. It was that opportunity that put me on the road of individual watch repair.
1984 In May, near Xigong, a movable tin house became my workshop. On the opening day, I formulated many preferential policies: the price of repairing watches is the lowest in the city, there is no charge for more than a dozen repairs, and the warranty is one year. When I greeted and sent away a batch of customers with trepidation, I was relieved a lot, because I saw the eyes of customer satisfaction and trust, and soon won many customers. People soon accepted me.
You can imagine the hardships of starting a business and the confusion of life. In hot summer, the temperature in the tin house is as high as 38-39 degrees. Because it is inconvenient to go to the toilet, I try to drink less or no water. My mouth is thirsty at the end of the day, which is really unbearable. In the cold winter, the iron house is not insulated, especially when the northwest wind blows, the hands and feet can't stretch out. After work, my legs are stiff, and I can't even ride the car, so I can only push it home. I finally rode once, and my legs were stiff when I got to the door, so I couldn't get off. I had to ride on the pole and hold it. I live to survive.
I'll never forget an incident that happened shortly after I opened my business. I broke a part while repairing my watch. Supposedly, I can make up an excuse to return it, which means that experts are easy to play tricks on amateurs. But I didn't do it. My father went all over the clock shops in the city and didn't match this part. Finally, my father went to Beijing and bought this part for me.
It is conceivable that in the early 1980 s, the per capita wage was only a few tens of dollars, but the maintenance cost of this watch was far more than twice its own value. It was honesty that taught me the truth of being a man. This incident suddenly woke me up. If I want to gain a foothold, I must have honest service and excellent technology. From then on, I humbly asked my master to practice basic skills with book knowledge. After hard work, it only took two or three minutes to change the tip and balance the wheels. My watch repair technology is becoming more and more mature. Finally, he won the first place in the-city-province vocational skills competition for the disabled, representing our province in the national competition. I found confidence in my grades.
For more than 20 years, I have always adhered to the principle of operating in good faith. Not long ago, I received a very special and personalized customer. The old man is seventy or eighty years old. As soon as he entered the door, he sat on the stool next to me, motioning with his hand to rest. Nowadays, driven by interests, it is not uncommon for operators who violate professional ethics, but the phenomenon of overcharging and deceiving customers will not happen here. Another customer said: to change the battery, I always take out the old battery and measure it. I still refuse to accept that it was scraped by improper contact. The customer was surprised. For more than 20 years, I have treated every customer with this kind of integrity. Although my economic benefits are far less than my social benefits, I have reaped the rewards from honesty.
Not long ago, I accepted an apprentice from Heilongjiang. She learned about me from Baidu. After the apprentice came, many customers bluntly said to her: You should not only learn the skills of the master, but also learn the ethics of the master, that is, honesty. In just a few words, I have affirmed my efforts in honesty in the past 20 years.
When the apprentice left, he told me the truth: She said, Sister! You are the third master I admire. I only studied with them for ten days for the first two. They fool people. I regret knowing you too late. After I go back, I must build a second watch repair shop in Suihua. I am very touched.
