Shashi Airport is located in Shashi District, Jingzhou City, Hubei Province. It was opened after a large-scale renovation and reconstruction on the basis of the airstrip built by the former Kuomintang army. It was expanded and put into use in 1992. Now it is a national second-class airport with a runway of 1,811 meters, which can be used for Boeing 737 to take off and land day and night. It has opened 15 routes to Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Xiamen. At present, Shashi Airport can only guarantee general aviation flight, which can no longer meet the requirements of large transport aircraft taking off and landing.
Introduction to the airport
Shashi Airport is located in the northeast of Shashi District, Jingzhou City, Hubei Province, with an east longitude of 112 16 ′ 45 ″ and a north latitude of 31 19 ′ 24 ″, 3.7Km away from the city center, covering an area of 1,511 mu and a usable area of 935,448.1 square meters. Now it is only used for general aviation flight. Shashi Airport, one of the earlier airports in the history of China. It grows with the growth of Shashi and Jingzhou, and its history reflects the ups and downs and changes of Shashi economy and Jingzhou economy to a great extent. Shashi used to be proud of the existence of the airport. Jingzhou can't lack the airport if it wants to develop tourism and economy. At present, Shashi Airport can only guarantee general aviation flight, which can no longer meet the requirements of large transport aircraft taking off and landing. However, with the rapid development of Jingzhou economy, Shashi Airport can still be further developed and utilized as a regional airport.

Airport construction
On August 21th, 1985, in order to meet the needs of local economic development and foreign exchange, the former Shashi Municipal People's Government signed an agreement with Guangzhou Civil Aviation Administration, and both parties invested 8 million yuan to expand Shashi Airport. The main project includes a concrete runway with a length of 1,611 meters, a width of 31 meters and a thickness of 25 centimeters; A connecting road with a length of 117 meters, a width of 15 meters and a thickness of 25 centimeters; A 61-meter-long and 31-meter-wide passenger apron, and a waiting room and air traffic control building with a building area of 2,189 square meters; 4,231 square meters parking lot; The 217.5-square-meter Nanyuan Station and the simple navigation lighting approach system of Shashi Airport have also improved the support facilities such as dispatching, meteorology, communication, power supply and oil supply. The project officially started on October 6th, 1985. After more than two years' construction, the first phase expansion project of Shashi Airport was completed at the end of 1987, and the experience met the design requirements. After the completion of the first phase (1985-1987) reconstruction of Shashi Airport, it covers an area of 1,151 mu, and the airport level is 3B, which can take off and land aircraft of "Yunqi", "An 24" and "Short 361". Since September, 1988, Shashi Airport has opened round-trip routes such as Shashi-Changsha-Guangzhou, Shashi-Wuhan-Shanghai, Shashi-Wuhan-Nanjing, Shashi-Wuhan-Changzhou, etc. The aircraft used is "Short 361", which can carry 36 passengers.
With the economic development of Shashi and the increasing demand for aviation market, Shashi Airport after the first-phase expansion still can't meet the needs. Under this background, the municipal government and Guangzhou Civil Aviation Administration jointly invested 36 million yuan in the second-phase expansion of Shashi Airport. The Shashi Airport after the second-phase expansion is planned to be used for ten years, with the designed annual passenger throughput of the terminal of 311,111 passengers, and a new airport will be built ten years later.
The second phase of the expansion project officially broke ground on September 25th, 1992. The project lasted for one year, and the main runway was extended from 1,611 meters to 1,811 meters and widened to 45 meters. The expanded apron reached 16,111 square meters. At the same time, a 99.15-meter-long and 19-meter-wide connecting road, a 3,511-meter-wide boundary ditch and a 5,111-meter-long metal fence were expanded, and some ring roads were correspondingly expanded and built. The facilities such as dispatching and command, communication and navigation, meteorology, oil supply, water supply and power supply have been upgraded, and new equipment such as blind descent, range finder, navigation AIDS, automatic meteorological observation system and satellite cloud receiver have been added. During the construction period, three "Short 361" planes were transferred to Wuhan Nanhu Airport to continue their transport flights.
On October 24th, 1993, the School Flight Center of the Civil Aviation Administration of China conducted a comprehensive calibration of the communication and navigation equipment of the expanded Shashi Airport, which was successful. From 25 to 27 October, Guangzhou, Wuhan and other relevant departments formed an acceptance team to accept the second phase expansion project of Shashi Airport, and found that the project met the design requirements and passed the acceptance.
after the expansion in p>1993, Shashi airport reached the 4C-class airport standard and could take off and land Boeing 737-211, 737-311 and 737-511. In July, 1994, China Southern invested more than 7 million yuan to expand the terminal building of Shashi Airport. The project was completed in January, 1996, and the area of the expanded terminal building reached 5,135.76 square meters.
Airport contribution
Restricted by many factors, such as airport scale, local economic situation, route arrangement, price policy, etc., Shashi Airport has been at a loss since its establishment. On July 8, 1996, China Southern Airlines Co., Ltd. decided to divert the aircrew of the 15th Flight Brigade, and most of the aircrew and crew members were placed in the branches of China Southern Airlines. Since the opening of Yichang Three Gorges Airport in 197, the passenger and cargo traffic of Shashi Airport has been declining year by year. On July 1, 1997, China Southern Airlines decided to put the organizational structure of China Southern Airlines Flight Brigade 15 under the management of China Southern Airlines Hubei Branch, and on April 7, 1998, it was renamed as Jingzhou Base of China Southern Airlines Hubei Branch.
On October 27th, 1997, the 15th Flight Brigade invited chartered flight Company of Yichang Youth Travel Service to rent the Yun-7 -111 aircraft of China Civil Aviation Flight Academy, and based on Shashi Airport, opened up routes from Shashi to Wuhan, Changzhou, Enshi and Chongqing, which was suspended on July 3rd, 1998. By 2111, there was only one Shashi-Wuhan-Guangzhou-Haikou route at Shashi Airport, with three flights per week, with an annual passenger capacity of only 16,777, a passenger load factor of 34.5%, a cargo volume of 323.3 tons and a carrying rate of 32.3%.
Since the reform and opening-up, Shashi Airport has been expanded in two phases, and the airport facilities have been gradually improved, and its support capacity has been greatly improved. From September 1988 to 2111, Shashi Airport * * transported 395,646 passengers and 4,643.72 tons of cargo and mail, which ensured flight safety and air defense safety, and contributed to the economic construction and development of Jingzhou.
