The business model of Japanese family restaurants was introduced from the United States and became popular in the 1980s. Literally, many families will have a good time here. Most people will order hamburgers, pasta, steaks, baked vegetables with milk and other western foods to enjoy the food with their families. When I was in high school, I used to work in a family restaurant near the school. The hourly salary was only 550 yen. After half a year, I was promoted to a skilled worker, and my hourly salary rose to 600 yen, which made me very happy. By the way, the hourly wage for family restaurants in Tokyo today is 1200 yen.
In the 1980s, family restaurants became popular. In the 1990s, there were family restaurants with parking lots on both sides of the road, and the competition was fierce. However, its golden age only lasted about 10 years. Later, ordinary restaurants were divided into Italian food, French food, hamburgers and other special restaurants, and the prices kept moving closer to family restaurants. The latter is characterized by "you can eat anything as long as it is western food", which makes it decline.
As a result, family restaurants began to distinguish between high prices and low prices. Per capita consumption used to be around 1500 yen. Here, in addition to family and couples, there are not a few people who use computers like me. It is said that restaurants and McDonald's are the best places to use computers, but the people there are noisy and the kinds of food are limited. In the family restaurant, you can drink all kinds of drinks and eat when you are hungry. Just at lunch or dinner time, the number of customers will increase dramatically, making people unable to concentrate on their work. It is best to avoid these time periods.
As restaurant operators, because the price of food is very low, we must try our best to cut labor costs and keep the number of employees to a minimum. Late at night, in a large family restaurant with more than 100 seats, only 1 clerk is busy, which is not uncommon. So the serving speed is slower than that of ordinary restaurants.
