On January 29, 2022, the General Administration of Market Supervision (GAMS), the National Health and Health Commission (NHHC), and the General Administration of Customs (GAC) jointly issued the Circular on the Investigation and Handling of Illegal Behavior of the Production and Operation of Foods Containing Gold and Silver Foil Powder in accordance with Laws (hereinafter referred to as the Circular).

The Notice requires market supervision departments at all levels to strictly monitor food safety, food producers shall not purchase and use gold and silver foil powder to produce and process food, food sellers shall not purchase and sell food containing gold and silver foil powder, and food service providers shall not produce and sell meals containing gold and silver foil powder.
