The estuary is small, but as an important external port of Yunnan and even China, the trade volume with Vietnam is very large. Because the border trade business in Hekou is booming, the local wages are low and the consumption is high, and the catering hotel entertainment industry is relatively easy to do.

Hekou Port is the largest port in Yunnan section of Sino-Vietnamese border and the terminal of Kunming section of Yunnan-Vietnam railway. It is a national first-class port. Located at the southern end of Hekou County, Honghe Prefecture, Yunnan Province, across the river from Laojie City, Vietnam, the border line is193km long.
