Xuzhou, referred to as "Xu" for short, was called Pengcheng in ancient times. It is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu Province. It is a national historical and cultural city approved by the State Council, a national comprehensive transportation hub and a central city of Huaihai Economic Zone. By the end of 2020, Xuzhou had jurisdiction over five municipal districts, two county-level cities and three counties, with a total area of 1 1258 square kilometers and a permanent population of 9,083,800.
Xuzhou is located in the southeast of North China Plain and the northwest of Jiangsu Province. The Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal passes through it, and the Longhai Railway and beijing-shanghai railway meet here. It is known as the thoroughfare of five provinces. Xuzhou is an important gateway city in East China, an important center of economy, science and technology, education, culture, finance, medical care and foreign trade in East China, an important node city of the National Belt and Road, an important central city in the northern wing of the Yangtze River Delta, a core city of Xuzhou metropolitan area and an international new energy base. It has the reputation of "Capital of Construction Machinery in China".
1993 Xuzhou adjusts the administrative divisions of cities and counties: Qingshan Spring, Daquan, Zizhuang, Jiangzhuang, Luzhuang, Biantang, Dawu, Tashan, Ji Geng and Qingshan Spring, Dongzhuang, Qishan and Quantai in Tongshan County are under the jurisdiction of jiawang district; Tongshan County Shitun Township and Jiahe Township Spark, Qunying and other villages are classified as mining areas. The suburb of Xuzhou was renamed quanshan district.
