Is there a big demand for catering talents in first-tier cities?

According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, the catering industry grew steadily in the first quarter of 2018, with revenues of 971.1 billion yuan, an increase of 10.3% year-on-year, and continued to play a role in boosting domestic demand and expanding consumption. The development of today's catering industry not only meets the needs of people's leisure and socialization, but also causes a wave of catering entrepreneurship. As the scale of the catering industry continues to expand, high-end catering and specialty catering, as a supplement to mass catering, have brought more space for the development of the catering industry in first-tier and new first-tier cities, creating more opportunities for recruitment and job hunting.

Data shows that from January to April 2018, the top ten cities in terms of recruitment volume of catering enterprises are Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Chongqing, Wuhan, Xi'an, and Suzhou. And the top ten cities in terms of job-seeking volume of talents in the catering industry are, in order, Beijing, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Hangzhou, Xi'an, Wuhan and Zhengzhou. Among them, Beijing's catering industry topped the list in terms of both the amount of companies hiring and the amount of talent seeking jobs.

From the ranking of cities in terms of the amount of catering industry enterprises recruiting and the amount of job-seeking, first-tier cities have the largest amount of catering industry talent supply and demand, while the new first-tier cities follow closely behind. This is because first-tier cities absorb a large inflow of population, have higher income levels of residents and faster development of urban services, while the catering industry, as a high-frequency rigid, multi-level consumer demand, pulls recruitment and employment.

The report said that some people analyzed that, on the one hand, because of the expansion of the scale of the catering industry, the demand for labor increased. On the other hand, by the rapid development of takeaways, express delivery and other industries, compared with the catering industry, these industries work higher income, more flexible forms of employment, the threshold of the work easier, attracting a large number of migrant workers to join. Although catering companies in first-tier cities have raised salary payment levels, they still have not effectively eased recruitment difficulties.
