Xi 'an City: Looking for the hejia village Pit Site in Tang Dynasty

On October 5th, 1971, next to hejia village in the southern suburb of Xi 'an, a pottery urn and a silver jar were found, filled with precious cultural relics such as gold and silver vessels of the Tang Dynasty. On 11/11/11, after archaeological exploration, another pottery urn was found, which was also filled with a large number of cultural relics from the Tang Dynasty. Two earthenware jars and a silver jar were buried in the same pit, so they were called "hejia village Cellar" because they were found next to hejia village-

On the afternoon of September 8, 2121, when I was attending training in Xi 'an, I came to hejia village by bike. According to the location described by Wu Zhenfeng in "Documentary Report on the Relieving of the Ruins of the Tang Dynasty in hejia village", the hejia village Cellar Site is located at No.2 Hydrological Lane, Youyi West Road, Xi 'an. At that time, it was a public security bureau reception station, which later became the seat of the National Security Department of Shaanxi Province.

Hydrological Lane is L-shaped, connecting Youyi West Road in the north and Taibai North Road in the west. It is about 311 meters long from north to south and 411 meters long from east to west. Because the Shaanxi Provincial Hydrological Bureau used to be here, this road is called "Hydrological Lane".

According to today's map, I arrived at Hydrological Lane smoothly, and the road was relatively narrow, with a width of about 31 meters. Both sides are shaded by trees, and the surrounding buildings are dense. Most of them are residential buildings built around the 1991s.

Next, I started looking for No.2 Hydrological Lane, which was out of sight by the Shaanxi Provincial State Security Department. I ran back and forth twice in Hydrological Lane, and found No.1 and No.5 Hydrological Lane, namely Qin Hai Building and Geophysical and Geochemical Exploration Corps of Northwest Nonferrous Geological Survey Bureau. However, I didn't see No.2 Hydrological Lane at all. Ask the locals, and I don't know!

No.1, Hydrological Lane

No.5, Hydrological Lane

The writing group of the Revolutionary Committee of the Cultural Management Committee of Shaanxi Provincial Museum was published in hejia village, the southern suburb of Xi 'an The article "Discovering the Cultural Relics in the Tang Dynasty" is accompanied by a "Recovery Map of Drilling in Xinghua Square, Chang 'an City, Tang Dynasty", which indicates the specific location and surrounding environment of the hejia village cache site.

At that time, the hejia village hoard site was located at the corner of Hydrological Lane, adjacent to a primary school campus on the west, Shaanxi Provincial Health School on the east, Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital on the northeast and Bayi Primary School in Xi 'an on the northwest. Today, the former primary school campus has become a branch of University South Road Primary School, the former Shaanxi Provincial Health School has become Xi 'an Medical College, the former Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital is still in its original place, and the former Xi 'an Bayi Primary School has become Xi 'an No.82 Middle School.

Therefore, the hejia village hoard site should be located between the present University South Road Primary School and Xi 'an Medical College. Today, this is the outreach hotel, with a five-story building facing south and an elegant environment. At that time, the pit where two pottery urns and a silver jar were found has disappeared under the building of the Outreach Hotel!

It is located in Xinghua Square, Chang 'an City, Tang Dynasty, in the third row south of the Imperial City and the second column west of Suzaku Street. After archaeological exploration, in Xinghua Square, only the east-west street was found, but no north-south street was found.

hejia village cellar site is 268 meters away from the north-south street outside Fangwai, 412 meters away from the north-south street outside Fangwai and 55 meters away from the east-west street inside Fangwai. According to the record of New Records of Two Beijing, this place is located in the position of Tai Wangfu. Some people think that this is the residence of Liu Zhen, the envoy of renting mediocrity, according to the record of "Examination of the Square in the Two Capitals of Tang Dynasty".

hejia village's cellar was discovered in the 1971s. At that time, there were great limitations in the archaeological work in China. It was an accidental "treasure-digging" archaeological discovery, which did not conform to the current "Regulations on Field Archaeology". Although a large number of gold and silver objects dazzled us, we didn't know about the surrounding relics, which caused irreparable losses to the later research work.

At present, the once hejia village and Tang Dynasty hoard sites have disappeared into the bustling cities, leaving only some related place names: West hejia village, Xinghua Lane, hejia village Primary School and so on.
