Suzhou Industrial Park

Suzhou Industrial Park was established with the approval of the State Council in February, 1994, and started in May of the same year, with an administrative area of 288 square kilometers, three towns under its jurisdiction and a registered population of 311,111, of which the planned area of Sino-Singapore Cooperation Development Zone is 81 square kilometers. Our goal is to build Suzhou Industrial Park into a high-tech industrial park with international competitiveness and a modern, landscaped and internationalized new city.

As an important cooperation project between the Chinese and New Zealand governments, the development and construction of Suzhou Industrial Park has been cordially cared for and highly valued by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council. Over the years, with the concerted efforts of China and Singapore, the development and construction of the park has maintained a sustained, rapid and healthy development trend. At present, the park accounts for about 3.5% of Suzhou's land, 5% of its population, 7% of its industrial electricity consumption, 1% of its sulfur dioxide emissions and 2% of its COD emissions, creating about 15% of the city's GDP, local general budget revenue and investment in fixed assets, and about 25% of its registered foreign capital, foreign capital received and total import and export volume, which has become an important growth pole for Suzhou's economic and social development. At present, the park has created about 3% of the IT output value and 16% of the IC output value, and the output value of high-tech industries accounts for over 61% of the total industrial output value, and the total profit and tax of high-tech industries accounts for more than one third of the whole city.

2. Pay attention to technological innovation. Take scientific and technological progress as the foundation of establishing and strengthening the region, and constantly accelerate the development of science and technology. From the perspective of investment in science and technology, the accumulated investment exceeds 15 billion yuan, the three funds for science and technology have doubled for three consecutive years, and the R&D investment accounts for 3.4% of GDP. 5. Pay attention to institutional innovation. As an outpost of reform and opening up, the park's achievements are not only reflected in economic development and management, but more importantly, it has accumulated new experiences that are in line with China's national conditions and suitable for the development zone. In 1994, the State Council approved that the park could independently and selectively learn from Singapore's experience in economic development and public administration on the premise of upholding and safeguarding national sovereignty. To this end, the two sides have established an effective learning organization system, and the Suzhou Industrial Park Learning from Singapore Experience Office and the Singapore Ministry of Trade and Industry Software Project Office are responsible for daily liaison.
