According to legend, Dongpo meat was created and developed by Su Dongpo, a poet in the Northern Song Dynasty. During Su Dongpo's tenure in Xuzhou, the Yellow River burst in the area under Su Dongpo's jurisdiction, causing floods to surround Xuzhou. Su Dongpo personally went down to the river and guarded the city with officials, soldiers and the people of the whole city. After more than 70 days and nights, the catastrophe was finally solved and Xuzhou City was saved.
While celebrating salvation, the people of the whole city also thanked Su Dongpo for * * * surviving in adversity and for not giving up the people of Xuzhou. As a result, families slaughtered pigs and sheep, carried meat and wine, and handed them over to Su Dongpo's home. Faced with such a huge scene, Su Dongpo can't refuse, but can only accept gifts from the people. Then, let the family handle the meat sent by the people and send it back to the people who participated in the flood control. People call it "back to meat".
Later, Su Shi was demoted, and Su Shi claimed to be a "Dongpo layman" and cultivated the fields. When Su Shi was in Hangzhou, he once again took effective measures to solve people's plight in the case of heavy rain and flooding of Taihu Lake. In order to thank the people and send pork, Su Shi burned the meat and returned it to the people. After people eat it, it is called "Dongpo Meat".
