Huangshi is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Hubei Province. It is an important industrial base in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, an open city along the Yangtze River, a central city in eastern Hubei, a regional central city in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, an advanced manufacturing base in central China, and a sub-central city in Wuhan city circle.
