Every exam, every seven students sit at a table. The dishes are divided into four dishes and eight bowls, four dishes are fresh fruits, and eight bowls are six meats and two vegetables, also called "dry eight bowls". Over time, the word "eating eight bowls" has become synonymous with local outstanding literary talents and has been passed down to this day.
In order to prevent the "Eight Bowls", which has been circulating for hundreds of years, from being lost and to integrate local food resources, Lvliang people launched the "Eight Bowls of Lvliang" menu in May 2009, offering different dishes according to different seasons.
At present, the eight bowls are mainly "bumper harvest, wild vegetables, boiled tofu, Hongshan lotus root pot, braised lion's head, nourishing mutton, braised silver carp and fried braised Sanhuang chicken". When serving, all the dishes are served in a unified sea bowl, which looks fresh and delicious and has strong local characteristics.
Among the hotels in Luliang Mountain Scenic Area, the Daafu Chain Store in Lvliang Village and the Ji Ming Inn on the bank of Hangshui Lake not only inherit the history, but also bring forth the new, especially the eight bowls of Lvliang cuisine.
