The Yugur people originated from the nomadic Uighurs in the Orhun River valley in the Tang Dynasty, and they use three languages, namely, Yugur language, which belongs to the Turkic family of Altai family, Yugur language, which belongs to the Mongolian family of Altai family, and Chinese.
Yugur people call themselves "Yao Huer" and "Xila Yugur". In 1953, Yugu, which is similar to "Yao Huer" in pronunciation, was taken as the family name. Yugur is a nation mainly engaged in animal husbandry, mainly living in Sunan Yugur Autonomous County of Gansu Province and Huangnibao area of Jiuquan.
