In Gan dialect, "Lao" is usually added to nouns or verb-object structures, indicating an adult man who occasionally does not pay tribute, such as a plowman and a gambler. When it comes to adjectives or place names, most of them have contemptuous meanings, such as: stupid guy, Subei guy.

Gan dialect is one of the seven major dialects of Chinese in China, and it is mostly used in Jiangxi Province, mainly distributed in the middle and lower reaches of Ganjiang River, Fuhe River Basin, Poyang Lake Basin and its surrounding areas, eastern Hunan and northwestern Fujian, southwestern Anhui, southeastern Hubei and southwestern Hunan. In addition, there are a few Gan-speaking islands in Zhejiang and Shaanxi.
