Traditional activities of the Spring Festival
Spring Festival is the biggest traditional festival in China. However, the Spring Festival is not just one day, but several days, usually until the fifth day. In some places, it will last until the 15th day of the first month or even the end of the month, and there are many activities, such as reunion dinner, ancestor worship, setting off firecrackers, New Year greetings, and welcoming God's Day.

1, have a reunion dinner

During the Spring Festival in China, "eating" often becomes the main activity of most people during festivals. The family is sitting around the steaming dinner table, full of joy and excitement, which can be regarded as one of the biggest characteristics of China folk New Year.

2. ancestor worship

During the Spring Festival, we must worship our ancestors, remember them and inspire future generations. On the first day of the first month, ancestral tablets should be enshrined in the main hall, or paper-cuts symbolizing ancestors should be hung, and offerings, candles, incense and other things should be placed. In addition to offering sacrifices to ancestors in nave and ancestral temples, there are also grave-sweeping sacrifices, commonly known as tomb sacrifices, which mainly burn incense, sacrifice and worship in graves.

In modern times, people usually go to the graves of relatives to worship. After the ancestor worship, according to the auspicious direction shown in the almanac, light lanterns, burn incense and set off firecrackers, open the door and travel, and place offerings to welcome the Western gods. Then people walk in the direction of the western gods, burn incense and bow down in the temple, and pray for good luck for a year.

The offerings to XiShen are mostly sweet materials-red dates, wax gourd, peanuts, candy, etc. As the Spring Festival is an auspicious day, ancient local officials often flatter the emperor. The so-called "golden harvest in Cao Ling" is an example. Folk also insert sesame seeds in the Spring Festival.

Step 3 set off firecrackers

Fireworks should be set off during the Spring Festival. Firecrackers have a long history. It turned out that bamboo joints were used to barbecue on the fire, which made a loud noise and was used to ward off evil spirits. There are many kinds of firecrackers, such as single-ring, double-ring, three-legged gun, two-kicking, multi-ring firecrackers, dragon gun, water mandarin duck, mouse gun, sky gun and so on.

Firecrackers originated from exorcism, and later added witchcraft meanings such as "Old Year" and "Not Coming Year", and even became a symbol of praying for peace. However, setting off firecrackers is easy to hurt people and pollute the environment. Now some cities have banned setting off firecrackers, so there are many substitutes.

4. Happy New Year

One of the most prominent features of the Spring Festival is to pay New Year greetings, which is also called exploring the spring. In the past, if the host had many relatives and friends and could not come to worship, the servant would send a business card or a blessing, which was the embodiment of the "fraternity" of the upper class in the New Year. When visiting New Year, New Year visitors usually give lucky money to the younger generation.

Folk New Year greetings also have a certain influence on the upper class. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, group worship was also popular in the court. The New Year's group worship of the Qing government in Dianshizhai Pictorial is the record of the above official activities. This activity is still popular with people.

5. Welcome to God's Day

The fourth day is the day to welcome God. The fairy will come to earth, but you must meet the fairy in the afternoon. Offerings include incense, food, fruit, firecrackers, burning gods and heavenly soldiers, symbolizing praying for God. Then the gods rode to earth.
