Locals call this dish "koi pla", which is made of lemon, vegetables and uncooked fish mixed with spices. Because fish is raw, there are many parasites in it. After being eaten in the stomach, these parasites are likely to parasitize in the bile duct, leading to inflammation and eventually becoming cholangiocarcinoma.
A local resident didn't know how his parents got cancer until he went to medical school.
Resident Nalong hopes to change this situation. He cooperated with experts to conduct a physical examination for local residents, and told them that their physical problems were due to eating "kio pla" and some raw fish dishes. This incident has also attracted the attention of Thailand, and the education department has also joined the course on the risks of eating raw fish. At first, the local residents listened to the advice, but when they ate the cooked "kio pla", they said it was not delicious at all, so most people still didn't want to change it.
