The American Thoracic Society/American Society of Infectious Diseases even suggested that antibiotics should not be used routinely for pneumonia in preschool children who do not need hospitalization.

However, if bacterial pneumonia is considered, antibiotics must be used. The course of pneumonia in children is usually 5 to 7 days, and for many cases, the treatment may last for one or two weeks. Antibiotics are generally used for 3~5 days after the child's fever is stable, the systemic symptoms are obviously improved, and the respiratory symptoms are partially improved. In order to consolidate the curative effect and avoid the recurrence of the disease, antibiotics were used for almost a week.

When the respiratory tract is infected with sputum for a long time, expectoration should be the main method, otherwise, when children's lung secretions are not excreted smoothly, viruses, bacteria, mycoplasma, etc. It may turn into pneumonia completely from top to bottom.

Professor Chen Zhimin said that pneumococcal vaccine can protect children to some extent, but this is not absolute. If you don't get a vaccine, you won't cause pneumonia. Pneumococcus is the most common cause of pneumonia in children, but it is not the only cause.
