As an ordinary person, if a person eats more and cooks more dishes, it means one dish and one soup, and the emperor needs about 20 dishes for the most ordinary meal on weekdays. How extravagant it is! This is the so-called "fairy mansion in heaven, emperor mansion on earth."
The Qing emperor only had two meals in the morning and evening. Now breakfast is from 6: 00 to 8: 00, and dinner is from 2: 00 to 4: 00, all of which have relatively standardized processes. There are three steps: passing meals, eating and eating.
? Royal Guards are responsible for delivering meals. Before each meal is delivered, a menu will be presented, which indicates the time and place of meal, the names of dishes, what utensils to use for which dishes and what tables to use. The emperor has no interest in crossing out today and adding new dishes.
? Dining is that maids and eunuchs serve dishes from the chef and enter the dining place in turn. This is also a spectacular scene, which can be said to be like a long queue. Emperors in Qing Dynasty usually dined in hall of mental cultivation, Gan Qing Palace and Hongde Hall. Eunuchs set the table in advance, and there are rules for what to put on the table.
? When eating, you should taste the food first to prevent food poisoning. That is to say, before the emperor eats, he should give some to his empresses, or let his personal eunuchs taste it before eating. When eating, he also uses silver plates and ivory chopsticks to check whether it is poisonous before entering the restaurant. The emperor usually eats no more than three bites of a dish in case people around him know that he likes poisoning. When eating, the emperor will reward his food to his ministers and minions, but these people can only eat standing up and say, "thank you for your kindness."
? The emperor has a rice spectrum, and a hundred people have annual food. The emperor's diet is exclusively for the emperor. It uses the water from Yuquan Mountain in the west of Beijing, and specially raises cattle and sheep for the emperor, supplying food such as milk, beef and mutton, as well as countless delicacies and precious dried and fresh fruits, and paying tribute to the emperor from all directions.
