Is whole house customization really equal to "whole house environmental protection"? Is the indoor environment healthier because the board is environmentally friendly? In March, Du Nan Housing Construction Group conducted the third round of collection, focusing on the whole house customized furniture. The appraisal team consists of Du Nan Appraisal and Evaluation Laboratory and Guangzhou Quality Supervision and Inspection Institute. From the collected applicants, 7 sets of customized furniture samples were taken to provide free inspection for the whole house.
The results showed that formaldehyde, xylene and TVOC (total volatile organic compounds) in two of the seven samples exceeded the standard in different degrees: formaldehyde exceeded the standard by 60%, xylene exceeded the standard by 20 %, TVOC exceeded the standard by about 3 .9 times. The highest detection values of these three pollutants all came from the same sample.
Evaluation record
Time: 2065438+March to May 2009
Testing organization: Guangzhou Institute of Quality Supervision and Inspection.
Test items: formaldehyde, benzene series (benzene, toluene and xylene) and TVOC (total volatile organic compounds).
Reference standard: GB/T 18883-2002 Indoor air quality standard.

In order to find environmentally friendly plates, I specially went to the factory for inspection.
The renovation of new houses is worried that indoor air pollutants will affect the health of children and the elderly. Many people are looking for "zero formaldehyde" customized furniture for the whole house, but they are worried that building materials such as plates and paints are not environmentally friendly.
Mr. Li, who lives in Haizhu District, mainly considers environmental protection, price and quality when choosing a whole house custom brand. After many comparisons and introductions from friends, he chose a smaller brand of customized furniture for the whole house, and made a field trip to the factory. After watching the scene and the production process, he made a decision.
Also worried about the impact of interior decoration on children's health are Mr. Wang from Tianhe District and Ms. Qu from Huangpu District. Both families bought a degree room for their children to further their studies. "Before the renovation, I checked the paint and building materials with the lowest harm on the Internet, and also inspected the production process of customized furniture in the whole house, and also specially checked the plate inspection report." Mr. Wang admits that he values solid wood boards most.
Ms. Qu from Huangpu District has a similar situation. Because there is a two-year-old boy at home and he has a chemical background, he pays special attention to the environmental protection of the board, and finally chooses to use solid board.
Some owners are busy with work, so they can only choose the whole house to customize furniture.
Some new house owners try their best to find environmentally-friendly building materials, and some owners are busy with their work, so they can only hand over the decoration to well-known and trustworthy brands to customize furniture for the whole house. Miss Zeng, who is busy with her career, said that under the introduction of a friend, she chose a brand of customized furniture with good reputation. In addition to participating in the design and board selection, all others are handed over to the decoration company.
"This year 1 month, the renovation of the new house was completed. Because I have never lived there, I have been hanging there since the renovation, and there are no windows to ventilate. "
Miss Zeng also successfully signed up for Du Nan Housing Construction Group. The test results show that the indoor air quality of the sample is good, and the detection values of formaldehyde, benzene series and TVOC are all within the acceptable line.
assessment result
Seven samples and two samples exceeded the standard, with the highest exceeding 60%.
Formaldehyde, benzene series and TVOC are common harmful pollutants in home decoration. As the number one invisible killer of indoor air in newly decorated families, formaldehyde has obvious stimulating effect on skin, eyes and nose.
Gu Shiming, executive director of Guangdong Indoor Environmental Sanitation Industry Association, said that formaldehyde can cause acute irritation to skin, eyes and upper respiratory mucosa, causing some uncomfortable symptoms, such as dry skin, dermatitis, tears, jealousy, itchy eyes, sneezing and coughing.
20 17,10127 October, in the list of carcinogens published by the International Agency for Research on Cancer of the World Health Organization, formaldehyde was included in the list of Class I carcinogens.
The test results showed that two of the seven customized samples in the whole house exceeded the standard, with the highest exceeding 60%, and 1 just reached the limit of 0. 1mg/m3. Specifically, the detected value of formaldehyde in the owner's room of a sample in Yue Ming Community was 0. 16mg/m3, which was the most serious. In Yunjing Du Ming children's room, the formaldehyde detection value was 0.1.5 mg/m3; The sample of the Cultural Courtyard lies in the master bedroom, and the formaldehyde detection value just reaches the standard limit value of 0. 1mg/m3 (the sample is detected after being sealed for 48 hours, far exceeding the standard detection time).
After interior decoration, formaldehyde comes from a wide range of sources, mainly from adhesives, interior wall coatings, wood-based panels, chemical fiber carpets, plastics and thermal insulation materials in building decoration materials. Ye, a senior engineer of Guangzhou Institute of Quality Supervision and Inspection, analyzed this, and preliminarily judged that the reason of formaldehyde exceeding the standard was the "superposition effect" of formaldehyde in a narrow space, which led to the formaldehyde content exceeding the standard.
"The formaldehyde content of products such as wall paint, customized furniture boards, wooden beds and curtains. They are all qualified, but they cannot be distributed in time in a narrow space, so they continue to accumulate and accumulate, which eventually leads to excessive formaldehyde content in indoor air. "
A sample of xylene in children's room exceeded the standard by 20%. Experts say xylene may cause childhood leukemia.
"Benzene compounds are more difficult to decompose than formaldehyde, with higher treatment costs and the greatest toxicity." Gu Shiming introduced that benzene, toluene and xylene are collectively referred to as benzene compounds. Xylene is not only toxic, but also volatile, which is a high carcinogen. Xylene is the main pathogenic factor of childhood leukemia in gaseous pollutants. What is xylene?
Xu Pusheng, member of the Standing Committee of the Department of Respiratory Medicine of Guangdong Health Management Society and chief physician and professor of the Department of Respiratory Medicine of the Second Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, said that xylene is often colorless and can cause direct physical stimulation, chemical reaction, allergic reaction and abnormal immune system. It may also cause adverse physical reactions.
The results show that the contents of benzene and toluene in the air of seven samples are below the standard limit. However, the xylene in the owner's room and children's room of a sample in Yue Ming community exceeded the standard, and the detection values were 0 .23m g/m3 and 0 .24m g/m3 respectively. According to G B /T 18883- 2002 Indoor Air Quality Standard, the detection value of xylene should be less than or equal to 0 .20m g/m3. Therefore, the highest xylene in this sample exceeds the standard by 20%.
Ye introduced that benzene series (benzene, toluene, xylene) mainly come from paints and adhesives used in decoration, and some newly painted furniture surfaces will be released if the paint is not completely volatilized. It is reported that xylene is one of the components of Tianna water and a solvent for oily coatings. Adding a certain amount of solvent to paint to meet certain performance requirements is the main reason for benzene series exceeding the standard.
The highest TVOC detection value in a sample children's room exceeded the standard by about 3.9 times.
In this test, only 1 sample TVOC (total volatile organic compounds) in 7 samples exceeded the standard, which was more serious. The results showed that TVOC (Total Volatile Organic Compounds) of a sample from a community in Yue Ming exceeded the standard, as did formaldehyde and xylene. Specifically, the TVOC values of living room, master bedroom and children's room are 1.52mg/m3, 2.78mg/m3 and 2.93mg/m3 respectively. According to the Indoor Air Quality Standard, the limit value of TVOC in indoor air is 0.60 mg/m 3, and the highest TVOC in this sample children's room exceeds the standard by about 3.9 times.
What is TVOC (Total Volatile Organic Compounds)? What potential hazards may be caused by exceeding the standard? According to Gu Shiming, in the process of interior decoration, TVOC mainly comes from paints, coatings and adhesives, such as adhesives, coatings, paints, plates and wallpaper in building decoration materials, which will release TVOC.
TVOC can irritate the skin, eyes and upper respiratory tract. Inhalation can cause headache, dizziness, nausea and other symptoms.
Sample analysis
A. Yue Ming community sample
Air pollution is the most serious. The owner said that he has always attached importance to purchasing environmentally friendly building materials.
The results showed that formaldehyde, xylene and TVOC in Yue Ming community were the most serious among the seven samples. Formaldehyde in the master room exceeded the standard by 60%, xylene in the children's room exceeded the standard by 20%, and TVOC exceeded the standard by about 3.9 times. It became the highest detection value of over-standard items in 7 samples.
On the morning of April 22nd, at 10: 30, the appraisal team came to the owner's house and found about 13 pots of green radish in the house, including 3 pots of green radish in the owner's room and about 5 pots of green radish in the children's room and living room.
According to the owner Mr. Wang, he chose a brand of whole house custom furniture in Shenzhen. In addition, he added a new sofa to the living room, and both bedrooms also had new beds and mattresses. There are oil paintings hanging on the wall of the host's house. The renovation of the new house began in September 20 18, and the walls were painted in June 438+00. The renovation was completed in June this year, 438+00, and curtains were installed in the living room and room. "Because I pay attention to environmental protection, I have been ventilated since the renovation, and I also bought a lot of pots of green radish to absorb formaldehyde."
This test result surprised Mr. Wang. The school district originally purchased for my daughter's primary school has always attached importance to the purchase of environmentally friendly building materials. I didn't expect indoor air pollution to be so serious. In the future, he plans to increase ventilation and buy more green radish and vinegar to come to in addition to formaldehyde.
It is reported that masking the smell of new houses with vinegar and fresheners can not only purify the air, but also cause illusion and secondary pollution.
B, Tianhe District Cultural Courtyard Model
Worried about the impact on pregnant women, the wedding room was ventilated for more than half a year.
The samples of Tianhe District Cultural Courtyard belong to two retired people in their sixties. The sample is for their son and daughter-in-law to make a wedding room. Because the owner's daughter-in-law Wang is pregnant, the expected date of delivery is the end of June this year. For the sake of the baby's health, the young couple have been afraid to move into the new house.
Because of the long decoration time, the samples were ventilated for more than half a year after decoration. According to the owner's report, the renovation of the new home was officially completed in June 20 18, including painting the wall, laying the wooden floor, installing shutters, installing customized furniture and other projects. In addition, the owner added two mattresses of other brands. When the engineer came to check, there was a mattress and some sundries in the master bedroom, and the mattress in the small room was moved out in advance, but some sundries were piled on it.
Two days before the test, on rainy days, the owner didn't open the air, so the room was sealed for 48 hours. For the standard test time of 12 hour, the sealing time has exceeded three times, and harmful gases in the room will accumulate, which may lead to a high test value of this sample.
Experts suggest that consumers should ventilate the room in time, which will help the harmful gases released indoors dissipate faster.
C, Yunjing Du Ming sample
There may be a "superposition effect" in the small space where formaldehyde in children's rooms exceeds 50%
Mr. Zhang, the owner of Yunjing model room, chose the well-known brand of whole house customization listed in the industry. In addition to the furniture customized by the brand for the whole house, only two new beds were added. According to the owner, Mr. Zhang, he wants to change to a bigger three-bedroom apartment because he has a second child at home.
The new house was painted at the end of February 201August, and a custom wardrobe and children's bed were installed this year1October 22, and two new beds were bought in February.
On March 12, new curtains were installed in the living room and three rooms, and they were all of the same brand. In addition to curtains, the bookcases, wardrobes, children's beds and other furniture in the children's room are all customized for the whole house from the same brand.
However, it is worth noting that the children's room has a small space and the walls are painted with wall paint. There is a double wooden bed with a stair cabinet, a wardrobe connected to the roof, a big bookcase and a desk, which are filled with all kinds of daily necessities, including mattresses, quilts, pillows, clothes, chairs and so on.
The results showed that the detected value of formaldehyde in the children's room of this sample was 0. 1.5 mg/m3, exceeding the standard by 50%. The TVOC detection value is 0.53mg/m3, which is close to the standard limit value of 0.6mg/m3. The detection values of formaldehyde, benzene series and TVOC in the master bedroom are all within the standard limits.
This made Mr. Zhang a little surprised. "My home is facing the northeast, and I haven't done aldehyde removal treatment. I often keep ventilation when the weather is good, but it rained a lot in Guangzhou in the first half of the year, which led to a reduction in the ventilation time for opening the window. " In addition to ventilation, Mr. Zhang also put 4 pots of green radish in each room to absorb formaldehyde. Knowing the result, he plans to ventilate for a few more months and then move in in August. "I'm thinking about buying an air purifier."
According to Ye, our children's room has a small space. In addition to painting the walls, there are a lot of wooden furniture and textiles. It is very likely that the formaldehyde released by various materials has a "superposition effect" and a "cumulative effect" in a narrow space (the formaldehyde content in the indoor air is constantly accumulated and superimposed because it cannot be released in time).
Experts dispel doubts:
Are solid wood boards necessarily more environmentally friendly? Not necessarily, mainly depends on the processing technology and raw materials.
Many plates on the market claim to be "pollution-free and formaldehyde-free". Are they really environmentally friendly? What plate is the most environmentally friendly for home decoration? What is the standard of environmental protection?
Liang Yubin, an engineer from Guangdong Institute of Product Quality Supervision and Inspection, said that as the main raw materials in decoration and furniture making, boards can be divided into two categories according to materials: solid boards and man-made boards. According to the molding classification, including solid wood board, plywood, density board, particleboard, decorative board and so on.
"Compared with the amount of adhesive used, the formaldehyde content of solid wood boards is generally lower than other boards. However, it cannot be asserted that solid wood panels are safer and more environmentally friendly than wood-based panels, and the influencing factors include raw material quality, production technology and finished product inventory time. "
According to modern furniture manufacturing technology, is it possible for some plates to claim zero formaldehyde? Liang Yubin said that the environmental protection of the board has a lot to do with the adhesive used.
At present, urea-formaldehyde resin, phenolic resin, melamine-formaldehyde resin and so on are commonly used in the production of plates. Their raw materials need a lot of formaldehyde, and the finished products also contain free formaldehyde, which is also the main source of formaldehyde pollution in finished furniture.
In recent years, some furniture manufacturers use isocyanate glue as adhesive and claim that their finished products are zero formaldehyde plates. The raw materials of isocyanate glue production do not involve formaldehyde, which will indeed reduce the formaldehyde content in the product, but the glue will also produce other pollutants.
He suggested that consumers should pay more attention to the types of plates, the adhesives used and the sense of responsibility of enterprises when choosing panel furniture. "according to the national standard GB 18580- 20 17, the limited label of wood-based panels in China is only E 1, and there is no speculation about E 0 boards by many merchants in the market. Don't be confused by the marketing rhetoric of the merchants. "
Can I use green radish and aloe in addition to formaldehyde? This folk prescription is unscientific.
Can Jia Zhuang completely eliminate formaldehyde? Gu Shiming said that it is unrealistic to completely eliminate formaldehyde in home improvement. In the process of home decoration, plywood, paint, adhesives, dyes and other materials can not be completely eliminated. These materials inevitably contain formaldehyde, and there is no substitute at present.
If you want to stay away from formaldehyde, the most fundamental way is to start from the source, such as using environmentally friendly materials, environmentally friendly furniture and professional decoration teams, using light decoration as much as possible and reducing the use of decoration building materials.
Du Nan Housing Construction Group found that many families choose to use plants such as green radish, aloe and hawksbill to absorb indoor formaldehyde, benzene and TVOC after renovation.
Gu Shiming said that this remedy is unscientific and not recommended. For newly renovated families, formaldehyde, xylene and TVOC were found to exceed the standard. He suggested looking for a qualified management company for pollution control, and at the same time considering buying a functional air purifier to treat both the symptoms and the root causes. "Air purifiers should replace filter materials regularly, otherwise secondary pollution may occur after adsorption saturation."
