On May 8, 2023, the China-Central Asia Summit will be held in Xi 'an, China. The predecessor of this summit is the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Organization (CACO), which was established in 199 1. Its member countries include Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.

Since its establishment, CACO has been committed to promoting economic and security cooperation in Central Asia, strengthening contacts and interactions among member countries, and promoting common prosperity and development of all countries.

The five Central Asian countries, with a total area of 40 1000 square kilometers and a total population of over 70 million, include Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. Geographically, Central Asia is located at the junction of Asia and Europe, and it is a transportation hub running through Asia and Europe. It has always been the only place to pass through the east, west, north and south.

As the key route of the earliest ancient human migration across Asia, the ancient Silk Road passed through here. As an important strategic buffer zone, geopolitical significance is more prominent.

Trusteeship background

The five Central Asian countries are friendly neighbors of China and important partners in building the Belt and Road Initiative and combating the "three forces". At present, the world has entered a new period of turmoil and change, and world peace and development are facing severe challenges. How to further promote the relationship between China and Central Asian countries, consolidate the cooperation achievements between China and Central Asia and improve the level of institutionalization is one of the major issues facing China's diplomacy.

In July 2020, the first foreign ministers' meeting of "China+Five Central Asian Countries" was held by video. The parties agreed to establish a meeting mechanism for foreign ministers of "China+five Central Asian countries" to jointly meet challenges, draw a blueprint for development and seek common prosperity in the region. The Second Foreign Ministers' Meeting of "China+Five Central Asian Countries" held in May, 2002/KLOC-0 was the first multilateral foreign ministers' meeting hosted by China during the COVID-19 epidemic.

The meeting reached a number of consensuses and achievements. During the global epidemic, the foreign ministers of the six countries still held offline meetings rain or shine, which showed that all parties attached great importance to the mechanism and had firm confidence.
