The first and most important thing is the motivation to study, one is to seek answers with curiosity, and the other is because of one's own interest.
This part of the advice is mainly to help people who don't like reading, make them interested in reading and become "reading physique". In fact, it is to arouse your interest in other ways, such as searching for anecdotes about the author, listening to the author's lecture first, attending a book club and so on.
For example, even if you don't pay attention to any Japanese writer, but this year's Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded to kazuo ishiguro, would you be interested in reading his books? Haruki Murakami, who runs with Nobel Prize in Literature every time, what does he think of this award and what does his work look like? Do you want to see it?
In short, if you are not interested in books, you should develop your interest around them, so as to arouse your appetite for reading.
Another important point is that you don't have to read the whole book. I'm ashamed. This is a shortcoming that I haven't changed so far, and it's probably my mentality of finishing what I started. Everyone's energy is limited. Reading every book from beginning to end, every word, wastes our time and energy. Besides, every book is not the essence from beginning to end. So when reading a book, you only need to learn the parts that are nutritious and helpful to you.
2. Reading skills
To read a book, you don't need to read it through, and you don't need to read every part at the same speed. The important parts can be read over and over again, and the unimportant parts can be swept away. This also requires us to read with questions and find answers faster, which is the essence of the book.
A table of contents is similar to an outline. Scanning the catalogue first will give us a basic understanding of the whole book and help us quickly find what we want to read first.
In Japan, the authors of most business books will mark the key points they want to express in bold, which is the fastest way for readers to get the key points. I haven't read enough books in China. I wonder if there is such a form. But in general, we can also get the key points from the title and the first and last paragraphs.
After getting the key points, there are marks and notes. Remind yourself of important parts through post-it notes or highlighters, and write your own inspiration next to it, which is what any literate person will do.
3. Systematic reading
This is the part that inspired me the most. It is mainly aimed at reading suggestions for professionals. There are two concepts here: vertical reading and horizontal reading.
Vertical reading: "It is to deepen reading in a specific field vertically".
This way of reading will make us experts. For example, Yuan Chunyi, the author of this book, wrote such a book "Efficient Reading" containing his personal experience after reading Bai Yuben's book about reading. There is no doubt that he is an expert in efficient reading.
Each of us can also read similar books systematically according to the needs of our work and development, so that we can not only reflect on ourselves, but also read with questions, which will certainly help us learn lessons better and improve ourselves.
Horizontal reading: "Read books in all professional fields horizontally".
This way of reading will make us versatile. To put it simply, you should read a little, understand a little, but you can't master it. Sometimes it is necessary to read these "extracurricular" books, because they will provide us with new ideas and new horizons.
Yuan Junyi suggested that 70% of reading should be devoted to vertical reading, 20% to reference books supporting vertical reading, and 10% to unknown books. This can ensure our knowledge reserve.
4. Establish a knowledge base
Once you have acquired knowledge, you should file it.
The first is what kind of knowledge to archive. One of the methods given by Chunyiyuan is to divide knowledge into three categories, namely, recipe information, food information and plate information. The metaphor of each classification is vivid and can be understood as methodology, material and form. Mothers will accumulate their own recipes, and we should also accumulate our own knowledge recipes.
And then use what kind of method to archive. Chunyiyuan has given many suggestions on efficient reading, and you can choose according to your own situation. Such as scrapbooks, reading cards, photos, diaries, online disk clouds and so on.
The establishment of knowledge base is actually a very important process, because many people may have their own knowledge reserves, but most of them are chaotic. In fact, we can use classification and labeling flexibly to make the whole system clear at a glance and more orderly. Although this may be a huge process, it is absolutely necessary, and it will be a valuable asset over time.
Step 5 summarize the output
The summary output is mainly non-fiction books, after all, these can be better turned into their own use.
No matter how many books you read, you will gain more knowledge and experience. It is useless not to sum up and practice. So after reading a book, we should put what we have learned into practice and improve ourselves. The combination of knowledge and practice can make us by going up one flight of stairs. Moreover, we can aim at writing books and making presentations, and use what we have learned and experience to sort out our own unique cheats.
Just like the original Junichi, he summed up a piece of information about marketing based on his years of reading experience and his own work reflection. This information was affirmed by colleagues and leaders, and made him realize the importance of output.
Therefore, every time you read a book, take it as the raw material for your future book and serve your output.
In fact, reading in this way is also a virtuous circle, because when summing up the output, we may have new problems and need to read books to solve them, so we go back to the beginning-why did we study with problems in the first place? I just want to get inspiration and pleasure from it. Let's not talk about novels and prose poems for the time being Since reading non-fiction guidance books with questions, natural and efficient reading is the best way, so that you can get started quickly and improve your own shortcomings.
Grasping the method of efficient reading firmly is also beneficial for us to find the information we need better and faster in this era of information explosion. Moreover, in this era when anyone can speak, every time we use social software, it is actually our own output, so why not turn our reading into export nutrients and make it more quality?
Although some suggestions in Yuan Junyi's book Efficient Reading can only be realized in Japan, most of them have no national boundaries, which is both interesting and practical. Recommend friends who want to read efficiently to read it, so that they can pass every reading better.
