1. Appearance: There are three variants of New Zealand rabbit: white, black and reddish brown. But the one that is raised more is the New Zealand white rabbit, with pure white coat, pink eyes, broad round and short head, broad and erect ears, plump hips, muscular waist and ribcage, and stout and powerful limbs, which are typical characteristics of meat breeds.

2. Production performance: New Zealand rabbits are medium-sized, and their biggest feature is their early growth and development. Under good feeding conditions, the weight at 8 weeks of age can reach 1,8 kilograms, and at 10 weeks of age can reach 2,3 kilograms. Adult weight: male rabbits 4 to 5 kilograms, female rabbits 3,5 to 4,5 kilograms. Strong fertility, average litter size 7 to 8.

3. Main advantages and disadvantages: New Zealand rabbits were introduced to China in 1949 and are now widely distributed. The main advantages of New Zealand rabbits are high meat yield, good meat quality, adaptability and disease resistance. The main disadvantages are poor fur quality and low utilization value. However, New Zealand white rabbits and Chinese white rabbits, Japanese big-eared rabbits, California rabbits hybridization, can get a better hybrid advantage.
