1. Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture is an autonomous prefecture (prefecture-level administrative region) under the jurisdiction of Hunan Province, with its capital in Jishou City.

2. It is located in the northwest of Hunan Province, between 19 1 ′ ~ 11 22.5 ′ east longitude and 27 44.5 ′ ~ 29 38 ′ north latitude, at the junction of Hunan, Hubei, Guizhou and Chongqing. Xiangxi Miao Autonomous Region was established in August 1952, changed to Xiangxi Miao Autonomous Prefecture in 1955 and established Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in September 1957.
