What is arteriosclerosis?
cause of a disease

1. Main reason

The most important causes of arteriosclerosis are hypertension, hyperlipidemia and smoking. Others such as obesity, diabetes, lack of exercise, nervousness, old age, family history, bad temper, etc. can all cause arteriosclerosis.

(1) Long-term impact of hypertensive blood flow on the arterial wall causes mechanical damage to the arterial intima, which makes it easy for blood lipids to deposit on the arterial wall, forming fat plaques and causing arteriosclerosis and stenosis. If blood pressure is not controlled, the incidence of myocardial infarction will increase by 2-3 times, while that of stroke will be about 4 times.

(2) Hyperlipidemia is easy to deposit on the inner wall of blood vessels to form plaques, resulting in arteriosclerosis and stenosis.

(3) Diabetes patients will have problems in fat metabolism, and protein (called lipoprotein) which transports fat in blood will be denatured, and fat will easily deposit on the inner wall of blood vessels to form fat plaques during transportation.

(4) Nicotine and carbon monoxide in smoking cigarettes will damage the inner wall of arteries, and the injured inner wall of arteries will block cholesterol, causing platelets to accumulate and form fat plaques. At the same time, smoking can also cause coronary artery contraction spasm and reduce blood flow.

(5) Lack of exercise can increase high-density lipoprotein, reduce low-density lipoprotein, help the body excrete excess cholesterol from biliary tract and intestine, and prevent excess cholesterol from depositing on the inner wall of blood vessels. In addition, exercise can promote blood circulation, increase vascular elasticity, lower blood pressure, consume excess calories, reduce the proportion of body fat, increase the proportion of muscle, and lose weight. Therefore, people who lack exercise are prone to atherosclerosis.

(6) People who are obese or overweight have a heavier heart load and a higher probability of abnormal blood lipids, thus increasing the risk of atherosclerosis. Obesity is prone to hypertension, diabetes and hyperlipidemia.

(7) People with excessive stress will increase the secretion of adrenaline due to stress, which will lead to an increase in blood pressure, a faster heartbeat and damage to the inner wall of arterial blood vessels.

(8) Family history refers to the genetic factors that make some people suffer from arteriosclerosis at an early stage, and the reasons are still unclear. Some people have severe hypercholesterolemia and accumulate in the blood, which in turn promotes arteriosclerosis. Some are early-onset hypertension, or prone to thrombosis.

2. Nutritional causes

(1) Cholesterol A large intake of greasy foods and foods rich in cholesterol is the main cause of arteriosclerosis. Cholesterol is an important component of cell membrane, brain and nerve tissue in the body, which is related to the formation of hormones and vitamin D. It has special physiological functions and is indispensable. However, if the intake is excessive, the content of cholesterol in serum will exceed the normal range, and over time, it will induce arteriosclerosis and endanger health. Clinical studies have found that excessive cholesterol content in blood is one of the important risk factors for coronary atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease.

(2) Fat Diet Daily diet generally contains a certain amount of fat. If you usually like to eat fatty food without paying attention to the intake of other minerals, too much fat will be deposited on the blood vessel wall, which will induce arteriosclerosis and other cardiovascular diseases.
