Although Mulian was the strongest disciple of the Buddha, he could not help but watch his mother's suffering, so he turned to the Buddha for help. The Buddha instructed that on the 15th day of the 7th month, Mulian should invite monks from ten directions to fast and wait for them to recite sutras for Mulian's mother, and also for the souls harassing Mulian's mother, so that Mulian's mother could be at peace. The 15th day of the 7th lunar month is close to the harvesting season, and most importantly, it is the time of the year when it is neither hot nor cold, so it is the most suitable time to pray for the souls of those who have wandered away. Subsequent generations followed suit, and all of them feasted on the 15th day of the 7th month in the hope that their ancestors would be restored to peace after their deaths. This story and custom was passed down to China from the Dharma Master. Instead of inviting monks to fast, the Chinese surprisingly thought it would be better to make offerings to the souls of those who haunted their ancestors. Slowly, the Bon Festival on July 15th was changed by the Chinese into the Ghost Festival on July 14th. On this day, every family makes offerings to their ancestors and to the spirits in the neighborhood in the hope that their homes will be peaceful and their ancestors will be at peace. People generally believe that July 14th is a day when the ghost gate is wide open, so they rarely go out at night. This is just a one-sided idea. In fact, the midnight of July 14, that is, before twelve o'clock on July 15, the ghost door is from wide open to close. According to ancient records, this time should be the last deadline for ghosts wandering on earth to return to hell. The official opening of the Ghost Gate would be on the second day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar. On this night, the nine major caves of the most Yin in all the cities of the world will be opened, and all ghosts will be able to come in and out freely, enjoying the offerings prepared for them on earth until twelve o'clock in the morning of the fifteenth day of the seventh lunar month. Only on the eighth day of the first month of the following year will the ghosts have another fourteen days to wait until the ghost gate reopens, and then travel through the world of flowers. People who want to use offerings to sacrifice, the most should be in the second day of July that day to open the offerings, otherwise you will let the ancestors hungry for a few days, or they may see the seventh of July sacrifices to the seven fairies offerings will think you are unfilial, only know to seek marriage, and forget the ancestors. On the eighth day of the first month of the following year, which is the day after the Day of Man, the ghost gate will be opened once again, allowing ghosts to travel the earth again.
