Xiao Chun, Su Causeway, Ten Scenes of Hangzhou West Lake
Su Causeway starts from Nanping Mountain in the south and ends at Qixia Mountain in the north, with a total length of nearly three kilometers. It was built by dredging silt from the West Lake when Su Dongpo, a great poet in the Northern Song Dynasty, was appointed as the magistrate of Hangzhou. Later generations named it Su Causeway to commemorate Su Dongpo's achievements in managing the West Lake. The waves lying on the long embankment connect Nanshan and Beishan, adding a charming scenery to the West Lake. In the Southern Song Dynasty, Xiao Chun, Su Causeway was listed as the first of the ten scenic spots in the West Lake, and in the Yuan Dynasty, it was also called "Liuqiao Willow" and was listed as the ten scenic spots in Qiantang, which shows that it has been deeply loved by people since ancient times. In the Imperial Monument Pavilion south of Wangshan Bridge in Su Causeway, there is an inscription of "Su Causeway Xiao Chun" inscribed by Kangxi. Peach and willow trees are planted on both sides of Su Causeway, with different scenery in four seasons. Every spring, summer and March, willows turn into smoke and cover the lake, which is very interesting. There are poems to prove it: trees, fireworks, fog and sand around the embankment, pavilions and terraces half covered. From south to north, there are six bridges in Su Causeway: Yingbo Bridge, Suolan Bridge, Wangshan Bridge, Dike Bridge, Dongpu Bridge and Hongqiao. Hangzhou people commonly call these six bridges "Six Suspension Bridges", and there is a folk song "Six Suspension Bridges in West Lake Scenery, One Willow and One Peach". After liberation, the sixth bridge was reinforced and widened again, and the railings of the bridge all adopted Qingtian carved national patterns to maintain the original style of the ancient bridge.
West Lake in Hangzhou: Wind and Lotus in the Ten Scenes of Qu Yuan
Quyuan Fenghe, located on the right side of Su Causeway, near Beishan Road, is one of the ten scenic spots of West Lake.
The present "Quyuan Fenghe", formerly called "Quyuan Fenghe", is located in the west of West Lake, near Yuehu Lake and Xili Lake, and far away from Su Causeway. In the Southern Song Dynasty, it was called "Qu (qū) courtyard style". "Quyuan" originally refers to the distiller's yeast used in the workshop for brewing official liquor, which is located in the area of today's Jiuli Songdong and Hongchunqiao. At that time, the Jinsha River water flowed into the West Lake here. Brewers made koji from Jinsha River water and planted lotus flowers in the lake. When the flowers bloom, the fragrance is overflowing and the scenery is intoxicating. Liquor-making by distiller's yeast is to transplant conidia of Aspergillus to cooked white rice, and then hyphae flourish on the rice, which is called distiller's yeast. Roughly in the Song Dynasty, the types and production techniques of China distiller's yeast were basically finalized, and it was also the place where China's brewing technology was officially managed by the state.
Hangzhou West Lake Shijing Broken Bridge
Broken bridge and snow is a famous scenery on the West Lake, which is famous for its looming bridge deck in winter snow. It belongs to one of the ten scenic spots of West Lake.
Hangzhou West Lake Ten Scenes Pinghu Autumn Moon
Autumn moon in Pinghu is one of the ten scenic spots in West Lake. In the Southern Song Dynasty, it was listed as the third of the ten scenic spots of the West Lake, and in the Yuan Dynasty, it was also called "jathyapple of the West Lake", which was listed as the ten scenic spots of Qiantang.
"Autumn Moon in Pinghu" landscape refers to: whenever the air is crisp in autumn. The surface of the West Lake is as calm as a mirror, and the clean autumn moon is in the sky. Moonlight and lake water complement each other, which is quite a sense of "one lake is full of autumn", hence the name "Autumn Moon in Pinghu".
