The living environment of Pearl Grouper

Pearl grouper, also known as grouper, is a benthic fish, and its adult fish mainly inhabits coral reefs and near-shore rocky reefs, and some of them inhabit in the sea where the substrate is sandy, muddy or silty, and its juvenile fish prefers seagrass beds, mangroves and other habitats.

Grouper inhabit in the shallow waters of 100m, and some species inhabit in the water layer of 100~200m. Most of the grouper are solitary fishes, and they usually do not form groups except for clusters during the breeding season;

but there are also some species that live in small groups of one male and several females, such as the cross-banded nine-spined seabass and the green-starred nine-spined seabass. Grouper can often colonize specific reef areas for extended periods of time, and characteristics such as this sedentary habit and long life history make grouper vulnerable to overfishing.
