Found in mountainous areas at an altitude of 150-2000 meters in the grass by streams, on shrubs, on rock walls or rocks, in bamboo forests, on withered branches by roadsides, or in grassy ridges. It is mostly active on rainy and cloudy days, and is most active in the evening and at night. It feeds on frogs, tadpoles, lizards, birds and small mammals. It is oviparous, giving birth to four to five young between August and September. It is the main snake species causing venomous snake bites in Fujian, Taiwan, Guangdong and other provinces. The average amount of venom discharged is about 30 milligrams each time. After a person is bitten, the wound localized intense burning pain, swelling develops rapidly, and its typical characteristics of bloody blisters are more common and appear earlier; generally less likely to show systemic symptoms.
