Shanghanghang Hang gets its name from the general name of two parallel streets, Shanghang Street and Xiahang Street.

Shanghanghang Road and Xiahang Road and their neighboring neighborhoods in the Taijiang District of Fuzhou City are commonly known as "Shuanghang". It refers to the two parallel cross-streets between Xiaoqiaotou and Damiao Road, which were the commercial center and shipping terminal of Fuzhou in the early years.

The word "Hang" is actually a derivation of the sound "Hang", and there is a historical process of geographical change here. In ancient times, when the water of Minjiang River bypassed Damiao Mountain, Shangshang Hang was the port of Jinkou for up and down navigation. In May 2014, it was recognized as one of the first nine provincial-level historical and cultural districts in Fujian Province.

On Nov. 5, 2021, the Shanghang neighborhood of Fuzhou City was identified by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism as the first batch of national nighttime cultural and tourism consumption agglomeration areas.
