Incredible Plot:
During the Jin Dynasty, there was an orphan named Xie Duan in Houguan County whose parents died when he was very young, and a kind neighbor adopted him. Xie Duan was loyal, honest, hard-working and thrifty. When he was 17 or 18 years old, he didn't want to cause any more trouble for his neighbors, so he built a small house by the side of a hill and lived independently.
Because his family was penniless, he never took a wife. Neighbors were concerned about him and helped him matchmaking several times, but without success. One day, Xie Duan picked up an unusually large snail in a field and, thinking it was a strange thing, brought it home, put it in a water tank, and kept it for dozens of days.
Xie Duan went to labor in the field every morning, but came home to see rice, drinks and hot water in the house, as if something had been done. After several days of this, Xie Duan asked his neighbors about it. The neighbors all said they didn't do it themselves. After this, Xie Duan went out at cock-crowing, and came back quietly just as the sun was coming up, and peeped over the fence, and saw a young girl come out of the water tank and go to the stove to make a fire.
Expanded:
The Tianluo Girl is a character in a local folklore story from Fuzhou City, Fujian Province, from Volume 5 of the Afterword of Searching for God. The story tells that the Emperor of Heaven knew that Xie Duan had lost both his parents and was alone since he was a child, and sympathized with him, and saw that he was frugal and contented, so he sent the goddess Tian Luo to help him down to the earth. It is also rumored that the storyline is similar to that of the conch lake in Shehong County, Sichuan Province.
The snail girl has obtained the consent of the old snail spirit to dress up carefully, and went ashore to Shiwa's home, to meet with Shiwa. Halfway there, a light rain suddenly fell from the sky, which gave off a rich fragrance that made people feel refreshed.
Looking towards the sky, she saw a goddess in the clouds dipping a willow twig in her hand to splash down the water in a jade bottle, and the original drizzle came from this. She suddenly realized, this is not the Goddess of Mercy? She hastily put her hands together, kneeling down to worship.
