3. Shanghai Chenghuang Temple was built in Yongle period of Ming Dynasty (1403- 1424). By Daoguang period of Qing Dynasty, the base of the temple was gradually expanded, and the number of temples was increasing. Since Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty, the Temple of the God of the City has been destroyed by war. In the 22nd year of Daoguang (1842), the British army captured Wusong, and the temple was destroyed because of taking the Temple of the God of the City of Shanghai as its residence. After 1994, the Shanghai City God Temple Restoration Committee was established to gradually restore and open the Shanghai City God Temple.
