What festival is May 5th?
Dragon Boat Festival is the fifth day of the fifth lunar month.

Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanyang Festival, Noon Festival, May Festival, 5th Festival, Ai Festival, Duanwu Festival, Chongwu Festival, Midday Festival, Summer Festival and Pujie Festival, was originally a festival to drive away the plague in summer. Later, Qu Yuan, a poet of the State of Chu, threw himself into the river on the Dragon Boat Festival and became a festival to commemorate Qu Yuan (a memorial to Wu Zixu, a loyal minister of the State of Wu).

Dragon Boat Festival, Spring Festival, Tomb-Sweeping Day and Mid-Autumn Festival are also called the four traditional folk festivals in China. Since ancient times, there have been festivals such as rowing dragon boats and eating zongzi on the Dragon Boat Festival. Since 2008, Dragon Boat Festival has been listed as a national legal holiday.

In May 2006, the State Council listed it in the first national intangible cultural heritage list; In September 2009, UNESCO formally reviewed and approved the inclusion of China Dragon Boat Festival in the world intangible cultural heritage, making it the first festival in China to be selected as a world intangible cultural heritage.

The custom of the fifth day of May

1, Dragon Boat Race: According to legend, people who originated in the ancient state of Chu were reluctant to let their sage Qu Yuan die in the river, and many people rowed to catch up and save. They scrambled to catch up with each other and disappeared when they reached Dongting Lake. After that, I will row a dragon boat on May 5th every year to commemorate it. Dispel the fish in the river by rowing dragon boats, so as not to eat Qu Yuan's body. The habit of racing is prevalent in Wu, Yue and Chu.

2, Pei sachet: the sachet contains cinnabar, realgar, and fragrant medicine, wrapped in silk cloth, full of fragrance, and then tied into a rope with five-color silk strings, making a variety of shapes and forming a string, all kinds of exquisite and lovely.

3. Hanging Artemisia argyi and Acorus calamus: On the Dragon Boat Festival, people regard inserting Artemisia argyi and Acorus calamus as one of the important contents. Every family sweeps the court, putting calamus and moxa sticks in the lintel and hanging them in the hall. Acorus calamus, Folium Artemisiae Argyi, Liuhua, Bulbus Allii and Dragon Boat Flower are made into human or tiger shapes, which are called Ai Ren and Ai Hu. Made into garlands and ornaments, beautiful and fragrant, women compete to wear them.
