Australian Rainbow Fish, English name: Pink-Tailed Australiain RainbowFish, domestic alias: Rainbow Silverfish, Rainbow Fish, Australian Red-tailed Rainbow Fish, Stone Beauty and so on. Native to northern Australia, belonging to the fresh and salt water intermixed fish. The fish is fusiform, laterally compressed, with two sets of dorsal fins and a forked caudal fin, with a body length of about 8-12 centimeters. The fish has a yellowish green body with eight red longitudinal stripes from the posterior end of the gill cover to the base of the caudal peduncle. There is a red patch on the gill cover, and the patch is surrounded by a golden yellow color. The dorsal and anal fins are bright red and the caudal fin is light red, making it very beautiful. The Australian rainbow trout has a mild temperament and prefers weakly alkaline saline water. It does not have strict requirements for water quality and can get along with other species of tropical fish, making it a good species for mixed breeding. The fish is an oviparous fish, and reproduction is relatively easy. Males are more colorful than females; females have a more swollen abdomen than males when they are sexually mature. Breeding water temperature should be around 24℃. Before breeding, a layer of golden grass should be laid on the bottom of the box, and then the selected parent fish should be put into the box according to the ratio of female:male=1:1. After chasing, the female fish will lay eggs on the golden grass, the male fish will ejaculate to fertilize the eggs, and the fertilized eggs will stick on the golden grass. Each pair of parent fish spawns about 400 eggs or so at a time. After spawning, the parents should be fished out. Fertilized eggs can hatch out young fish after about 1 week, and the young fish can swim and feed after about 3 more days. The juveniles grow to sexual maturity after about 8 months and can reproduce several times a year.
There is another species of this fish called Tongue Scale Fish from New Guinea, whose body shape and length are similar to that of the Australian Rainbow Fish, but its color is pure rose-red, and its feeding and breeding methods are the same as those of the Australian Rainbow Fish. These two kinds of fish are most suitable for keeping in the aquarium, its bright and colorful body color and the green color of the water plants are very beautiful!
