Gulangyu Island (Kulangsu) was originally known as "Round Shazhou", alias "Yuanshouzai", in the Southern Song Dynasty was named "Wulongyu", the Ming Dynasty renamed "Gulangyu", is located in the southwest corner of Xiamen, Fujian Province, an area of southwest of Xiamen. Gulangyu Island was originally an uninhabited oasis, but at the end of the Yuan Dynasty there were traces of people, gradually forming half-fishing and half-plowing villages.
