What is Bird's Nest and how is it formed?

Bird's nests are formed by the gradual condensation of a large amount of mucus secreted by rainbirds and swiftlets.

Bird's nests are nests made of saliva secreted by some swiftlets and several species of swiftlets of the Rainier Swift family and mixed with other substances. It is also known as "Swallow Vegetable", "Swallow Root" and "Swallow Vegetable". According to the nesting place, it can be divided into "House Swallow" and "Cave Swallow", and the color of the Cave Swallow is different due to the influence of the minerals, and there are White Swallow, Yellow Swallow and Red Swallow, whereas the House Swallow has only one color, Ivory White.

The Golden Swiftlet nests three times a year, and the first time the nest is thick and white. Because the Golden Swiftlet has a long time to recuperate after a long winter, it stores enough nutrients in its body and has a better saliva quality, so the nests it builds up are better and thicker, and the shape of the nests is so good that they become marigold-shaped, which is why it is called "Marigold," and it is the finest product of the swiftlet's nests.

Storage Methods for Bird's Nest

1. Sealed Storage: Place the bird's nest in a sealed bag or a sealed jar and make sure it is completely sealed. This will prevent the bird's nest from getting damp and being affected by other odors. You can store bird's nest in the freezer or refrigerator to extend the shelf life.

2. Dry Storage: Store bird's nests in a dry, cool and ventilated place, away from direct sunlight and humidity. Moisture barrier or desiccant can be used to keep the bird's nests dry.

3. Divide and store: Divide the bird's nest into small portions so as to avoid contamination and spoilage caused by repeated opening and use. After removing the required amount each time, immediately seal and store the remaining bird's nest.

4. Don't soak for a long time: Bird's nests should be soaked and cleaned before storing, but don't over-soak them. Prolonged soaking will cause the bird's nest to become soft and easily broken.

5. Regular Inspection: The containers for storing bird's nests should be inspected regularly to make sure there is no odor or mold. If necessary, the container can be replaced or the moisture-proofing agent or desiccant can be replaced.
