Do monks eat leeks? Why?
The so-called vegetarian diet means not only not eating meat, but also not eating onions, onions, leeks, garlic and garlic. Why? There is a passage in the First Shurangama Sutra:' All sentient beings eat sweet food, so they live, and eat poison, so they die. They are all sentient beings, seeking three places to rub, and breaking the world. Five kinds of spicy food are five kinds of pungent food, and cooked food is obscene, and their health is increased. If it is the world, people who eat spicy food can preach twelve classics and ten immortals, and they are too smelly and salty to stay away; Hungry ghosts, etc., often live with ghosts because they eat twice and lick their lips and kisses. Fortune fades, but there is no benefit in the long run. It's people who eat Xin, practice Samadhi, and bodhisattvas, immortals and ten good gods don't come to guard them. "

From the First Shurangama Sutra, we can understand the importance of diet to body and mind, so we must choose food carefully. The five kinds of spicy dishes mentioned in the scripture: onion, garlic, leek, onion, and canal, although they are neither toxic nor meat dishes, the ingredients contained in spicy dishes are as poisonous as poison to those who study Buddhism and practice Buddhism. Because if you eat this kind of spicy food raw, it will make people angry and easily increase their resentment; If cooked, it will encourage lust. Invisibly, it encourages us to commit all kinds of evil deeds, such as killing, stealing, lust, lying, etc., which will ruin our legal body and wisdom.

There are people in the world who can speak all the classics without hindrance, but if they keep removing the Five Incentives, even if the Bodhisattvas and the dharma protector Long Tian want to protect them, they will avoid them as soon as they smell the bad smell in their mouths, and of course they will not come to guard them. And because of its own foul smell, it just coincides with the foul smell of all beings in the ghost road; Because hungry ghosts like foul smell, as soon as they smell the smell in their mouths, they will be called to lick their lips. Therefore, often with ghosts and sentient beings, good dharma and good karma are gradually far away, and the blessings are gradually reduced. In a word, eating five spices not only has no benefits, but also has various disadvantages; Those who really study Buddhism and practice must abstain from the five evils in order to have a clean interest.
