The UEFA Nations League, or the "UEFA Nations League")
It is a national men's soccer tournament organized by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), in which its member associations participate. The tournament is held across the year and replaces friendly matches between national teams. The winning team at each level of the tournament will have the opportunity to participate in a play-off for the UEFA Europa League.
The results of the tournament are also linked to qualification for the World Cup, with the winning team at each level having the opportunity to earn two World Cup play-off places if it fails to qualify for the World Cup or qualify for the play-offs in the World Qualification Tournament. As of June 2023, the Portuguese men's national soccer team, the French men's national soccer team and the Spanish men's national soccer team have each split the three titles since the tournament was held.
Origins of the tournament:
The 55 members of UEFA are divided into four tiers based on ranking coefficients. For example, the "Nations League" is grouped according to FIFA's national team rankings. Spain, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Italy would be in the first tier of the Nations League, while England, Portugal, Greece, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Russia would be in the second tier.
The tournament will be similar to the Nations League, except that the participants will be national teams and it will be held every two years. The top four teams from the first tier will also play a third-place match and a final at a neutral site. However, the tournament will be held in odd-numbered years, not clashing with the World Cup and Europa League.
