Ginger is native to tropical areas of Southeast Asia. It likes warm environment and is not cold-resistant. It is distributed in central and eastern China, southeast to southwest, and widely cultivated in Laifeng, Tongshan, Yangxin, Sun Yicheng, Xianning, Tongling, Changyi and Anqiu.
Growth conditions of ginger
Ginger likes warm and humid environment, and is not resistant to direct sunlight, stagnant water and cold. Suitable for planting on sloping land and slightly shady land, it is best to plant on deep, loose, fertile and well-drained sandy soil.
Ginger growth temperature
Ginger likes warm environment, and the suitable growth temperature is 25-28 degrees. If the temperature is lower than 20 degrees, it will germinate slowly, plants will wither in frosty weather, and the roots will lose their growth ability.
Ginger growth process
The growth process of ginger mainly goes through the germination period, seedling period, vigorous growth period and dormant period of ginger rhizome. The germination period takes 35-45 days and the seedling period takes 65-70 days. It is a warm crop, not cold-resistant and frost-free, and it is not allowed to overwinter in the open air in winter.
Planting time and method of ginger
Planting time: The planting time of ginger and the temperature of the planting place are bright. In Hunan, Wuhan and other places, it is usually planted in April-May in spring, and in the valley areas of northwest and southwest, it is usually planted in March, and the planting time depends on the change of regional temperature.
Planting method: When sowing ginger, you can soak ginger slices for ten minutes, stir them with sand, put them in a small space, then seal them with plastic film, sow them five days later, with the plant spacing of 30 cm and the row spacing of 40 cm, put the germinated side up, then cover them with a thin layer of soil, and finally spread a layer of straw on them.
