Dazhai Village is located in the southeast of Xiyang County, Jinzhong City, Shanxi Province. It is a small mountain village in Xiyang County, Jinzhong City, Shanxi Province.

It belongs to the rocky mountain area of Taihang Mountain. Due to long-term wind erosion and water shortage, the landform of seven ditches, eight beams and one slope has formed in this area. It is located in a barren land, with seven ditches and eight beams on one side and a slope on the other. The natural environment is harsh and people's lives are very difficult.

Later, in order to control the mountains and water, terraces were opened on the slopes of Qigou and Baliang, and the land was irrigated with water, which changed the situation of relying on the sky to eat.

Therefore, it was affirmed and praised by the CPC Central Committee, and issued the call of "learning from agriculture" in 1964, thus becoming a banner of national agriculture.

In the early days of the People's Republic of China, Dazhai was a brigade of Dazhai Commune in Xiyang County, Shanxi Province. This used to be a poor mountain village. After the agricultural cooperation, members cut mountains and slopes and built terraces, and the grain yield per mu increased by 7 times.

1964 February 10, People's Daily published the communication report "The Road to Dazhai" by Xinhua News Agency reporters, introducing their advanced deeds. He also published an editorial "A Good Example of Building Mountainous Areas with Revolutionary Spirit", calling on the people of the whole country, especially the agricultural front, to learn from the revolutionary spirit of Dazhai people.

Since then, the "Agricultural Dazhai" movement has sprung up in rural areas all over the country, and Dazhai has become a shining example of China's agricultural front.
