At this point a new chef, Nick (Alan?), is brought in to the restaurant. He has a completely different work ethic than Kate, which is unacceptable to Kate, but he has a knack for making Joe, who doesn't like to eat, eat well. Kate is forced to look at Nick in a different light, and as they date more and more because of Joe, a subtle bond develops between Kate and Nick, and even the relationship between Kate and Joe improves dramatically.

But at this point, the two have a disagreement at work and their relationship is challenged.......
