In the game you will encounter all kinds of zombies, and groups of undead are on their way to starve. By planting different types of seeds, you must cultivate many plant warriors to protect your brain from being eaten.
You have five lanes (six in some levels) to fend off the zombies, which lurch from the right side of the screen toward your home on the left. At the start of a level you select six plants from your arsenal and place them strategically on the lawn where you can destroy zombies, who will fight back by chewing on anything within reach. Gradually, you'll unlock up to 50 plants, most of which act as stationary guns that periodically shoot out peas or watermelons, or whatever you have. Some plants protect other plants, like the Wall-Nut, some explode, like the Cherry Bomb, and some have specific effects on specific zombies.
Each plant requires a certain amount of sunlight to cultivate. Sunlight balls will fall to the ground regularly, and you must click on them to add supplies. Sunflowers are your main crop, providing another source of sunlight that can power the rest of your plant army.
There are 50 levels in the main adventure mode, spread across five different settings and approximately 7 hours of gameplay. Each part requires a slightly different approach. For example, during night-time, you need to deploy cheap mushrooms to offset the lack of sunlight.
After completing the main storyline, there is still a lot to do. Survival Modes are kind of like extended versions of normal levels, Puzzle Modes mix things up, and the real temptation is the Mini-Games.

If you stay near the Tree of Wisdom, any maxims spoken will be repeated.
1. Thank you for fertilizing me! Keep fertilizing and I will give you valuable information!
2. Piranha and wallnut work best together - not surprising since they were roommates in college.
3. If you are really listening to me, then listen carefully: plant two rows of sunflowers - I am very, very serious!
4. Diving zombie? How annoying! What to do with them? My advice: grow wall fruits on lotus leaves, that's it.

16. If you think that only aquatic plants will appear when going through the "endless" survival mode, think again! All types of plants will appear here!
17. People often ask: Where can I find chocolate? Perhaps a better question would be: where is the chocolate? It appears in every game mode.
18. Tombstone moss, eh? Only use it if there are tombstones on the right side of the grass - that's exactly what I did.
19. I heard that bucket zombies can withstand five times more damage than ordinary zombies!
20. I heard that when "mustache" is entered, the zombies will undergo horrific transformations.
21. Will multiple snow peas make zombies slower? The reality is cruel: No!

45. Torch stakes burn "people" with anger, but lawn shovels, gates, ladders and shooting carts don't.
46. In "Endless" survival mode, if you do rely on those upgraded plants, be warned: they will become more and more expensive as the number of existing plants in the grass increases.
