Pine fungus grows for two seasons every year, from March to April and from September to October according to the lunar calendar. September and October are the peak growing seasons and produce the most, and the taste is much better than that in March and April. In western Hunan, it is called fir fungus and is divided into two types. One is called black fir fungus, which grows in May and June of the lunar calendar and around the Mid-Autumn Festival. It is hidden under thatch or in rotten pine needles. It is difficult to find but very delicious.
Pine tree fungus is also known as pine hair fungus, rivet mushroom, and pine needle mushroom. Classification status Agaricalales, Agaricaceae. People in Jiangxi call it Viongoella genus, which belongs to the genus Rivetella; people in Hunan and Hubei call it pine mushroom (tree mushroom) and yellow thread fungus (Xiaochang, Hubei). There are many names for pine mushroom in various parts of China.
