Buttermilk pancakes The first time I read Wang Zengqi's novel, I saw his "Buttermilk pancakes" on the "Selected Readings for Secondary School Students". The first time I read this novel, I just felt that the language of this novel is as plain as plain water, with no emotion in it at all, and there is not a single word of lyricism or discussion, almost the whole story is narrated in a wooden way. The only reason why I read this novel was because I had heard of Wang Zengqi's reputation. However, as I read on, I slowly got into the story, and the scenes of life told in the story quietly unfolded in front of my eyes. Later, I felt that those plain and emotionless sentences were pressing my heart little by little, and finally, my nose was sore, and I couldn't hold back the tears in my eyes any longer....... After I cried bitterly, I looked back on this novel, and only then did I realize that the strong affection behind those short and light sentences was there.

The second time I read Wang Zengqi's novels, I read the high school language book "Precepts". The language book was supposed to be extracurricular reading, and the teacher rarely led the class to read anything from it. Once, however, he spent an entire evening study period having several students read the middle grade novel from beginning to end in sections. Like Butter Flapjacks, the language in this novel seemed really bland and uninteresting, all straight-forward statements. Unlike Buttered Flapjacks, it is no longer about the heavy love of family, but about the gentle and beautiful love. The language, which is as merciless as white water, tells the story so vividly and interestingly, so gently and beautifully, like sparkling water, like a dream enveloped in a light veil. No matter what the main idea of this novel is, one thing is certain: this novel is extremely beautiful. As Mr. Lu Xun said in Good Stories: "There are many beautiful people and beautiful things in stories." Reading this novel is really a pleasure.

Today, I borrowed another book titled "Click on the Master-Wang Zengqi's Home Page", and read several novels such as "Revenge", "Records of Danao", "Abuse of Cats", "The Complete Book of Rituals and Customs", "Hou Yinshen", "Bowl of Rice and Flowers", etc., and it felt so good! Wang Zengqi's language is always so bland, but behind this blandness is an unusually rich human warmth and coldness. Wang Zengqi's novels are like a cup of gentle and mellow jasmine tea, which is hard to savor, just as Bingxin's words: "Red flowers are better than green leaves, and strong wine is not as good as light tea".

Water is merciless, but water is the most sentimental. Wang Zengqi's novels are like that gurgling water, really "the road is ruthless but sentimental" ah!
