The razor clam breeding season varies from place to place. It is earlier in the north than in the south. In Liaoning, razor clams breed in late June; in Shandong, in August-September; and in Zhejiang and Fujian, from late September until January of the following year, with the peak of the breeding season occurring from mid-October to mid-November.
Razor clam (chēng) razor clam is a marine shellfish. Mollusks. Between the two shells, narrow and long shape, outside the egg yellow, inside the white, living in the near-shore seawater, can also be cultured, meat flavor. There are razor clams, bamboo razor clams and other species.
Chēng is pronounced like "摊" in Minnan language and "青" in Ou language. Razor clams are commonly found in the mud and sand of the intertidal zone (especially in the temperate zone). The shell is long and narrow, razor-sharp, and up to 20 centimeters (8 inches) long. The axopods are large and active, able to move quickly up and down in the burrow, and quickly retract into the burrow when frightened.
Feeds on food particles in seawater by means of a short water hose. Some species can swim short distances by spraying water through the hose. The razor clams (Siliqua patula) of the Pacific coast of North America do not inhabit fixed burrows, but live in the quicksand of beaches that are constantly being washed by waves.
Habits
The razor clam has two well-developed water pipes, by which it relies entirely on to keep in touch with the sea water on the beach, sucking in food and fresh sea water from the inlet pipe, and discharging waste and sewage water from the drain pipe. The razor clam lives in a dugout on soft mud flats, and the depth of its lurking varies with the seasons: in warm summers, the lurking is shallow; in cold winters, the lurking is deeper.
The usual depth of lurking is about 5 to 6 times the length of the body, and the deepest can reach 40 centimeters, which is about 10 times the length of the body. If we see two small holes not far from each other on the beach, touch with a long hook to spray a little seawater, then there must be underneath the razor clam. These two holes are where the two water pipes of the razor clam stick out.
The size of the razor clam can be deduced from the distance between the two holes, and its body length is about 2.5 to 3 times the distance between the two holes.
