Pinyin Mingle Cai Xian

English names are wild amaranth, soil amaranth, pig mother vegetable (Fujian folk herbal medicine), wild amaranth (Guangxi Yearbook of Traditional Chinese Medicine) and thorn grass (Fujian Chinese herbal medicine).

The source is the root or whole grass of Amaranthus spinosus. You can harvest in summer and autumn.

Erect perennial herbs, 30 cm to 1 m high, much branched. The stem is sometimes red, the lower part is smooth and the upper part is slightly hairy. Leaves alternate; Oval or rhombic oval, 4 ~ 10 cm long and 1 ~ 3 cm wide, with tapering ends, whole margin or microwave shape, midvein bulging at the back and spines at the top; Petiole almost as long as leaf blade or slightly shorter; There are 1 opposite spines in leaf axils. Flowers unisexual, female flowers clustered in leaf axils, spherical; Male flowers are cylindrical spikes with erect or slightly drooping tops; Flowers are small, green or greenish-white, and setose bracts are about the same length as sepals; Sepals 5; Stamens 5. Utricle nearly ovoid, dehiscent. The flowering and fruiting period can be ~ 10 month.

Habitat distribution is wild in wasteland or nursery. Distributed in most parts of the country.
