Maiden of the Conch is a Chinese folk tale.

In later folklore, Su Nü was also reincarnated as the Girl with the Field Snail. The story is about a man named Xie Duan, who was poor and kind, and remained without a wife when he reached marriageable age. Later he retrieved a snail from the river and put it into a water tank to raise. The snail girl said she was a white water maiden, the emperor sympathized with Xie Duan, and ordered her to come down to earth to fulfill her wifely duties, and was expected to stay for ten years, but did not expect Xie Duan to be too nasty and improper in his action (peeping), so she had to leave early, but she still left her snail shells behind as Xie Duan's rice bowl, which is never full of rice, and never runs out of rice.
